Connect your audio source and lighting equipment to LuDioMix. Choose your audio source first, then the lighting connection you use. You do not need every option on this page.

Guide version: development version dated 2 October 2026. The interface and available audio inputs may differ from an older installation package.

1. How the system connects

Audio comes from a mixer or from music playing on the same computer. LuDioMix analyses the audio and generates lighting control.

  • Live band audio: mixer → external audio interface → computer → LuDioMix.
  • Computer playback: music application → selected playback device → LuDioMix SYSTEM AUDIO input.
  • DMX lights: LuDioMix → local network → Art-Net/DMX receiver → DMX cable → lights.
  • WLED lights: LuDioMix → local network → WLED device.

You also need a project and configured lights, covered in the following guides. A working network connection alone does not make a rig ready for use.

2. Live band: audio from a mixer

The recommended connection is mixer → external audio interface → computer. This takes audio directly from the mixer rather than using the computer's room microphone.

  1. Choose a mixer output carrying the band mix you want to analyse.
  2. Connect the mixer's line-level output to a suitable line input on the audio interface, using cables appropriate for the devices. Do not connect a speaker-level output to an audio interface input.
  3. Connect the interface to the computer and install its manufacturer's driver if required.
  4. First check the interface's or Windows' input meter. Adjust the input level so that it does not clip.
  5. If the interface's direct input appears as an INPUT option in LuDioMix's Audio input list, select it.

Current development-version limitation: on Windows, LuDioMix may list only SYSTEM AUDIO sources and omit direct audio interface inputs. If INPUT is missing, this may be a limitation of the device list rather than a connection error. Direct mixer input cannot then be selected this way. This limitation was not fixed as part of writing this guide.

Expected result: the receiving device's input meter shows the mixer signal. Check LuDioMix's own meter once the lighting rig is configured and analysis is running; see section 6.

3. Music playing on the computer

Use this option for music playing on the same Windows computer as LuDioMix.

  1. Start playback in your music application.
  2. Check which device plays the audio: for example, speakers, headphones or a USB audio interface.
  3. In LuDioMix's Audio input list, select the SYSTEM AUDIO (WASAPI) entry matching that playback device.
  4. Once the lighting rig is ready, check the LuDioMix audio level as described in section 6.

Example: if music plays through a device named Headphones, choose its corresponding SYSTEM AUDIO (WASAPI) input. Do not simply select the first device in the list.

WASAPI is a Windows audio interface, not a separate cable. VB-Audio Virtual Cable is an optional virtual audio device installed separately; it is not required to capture an ordinary playback device using this method.

If no audio is received: confirm that the music application really uses the playback device selected in LuDioMix. Restart LuDioMix if the device was connected after launch. Sounds from other applications using that same playback device may also reach the analysis.

4. DMX lights through Art-Net

You need a DMX device or fixture that receives Art-Net. An ordinary USB–DMX adapter is not automatically an Art-Net receiver.

  1. Connect the computer and Art-Net receiver to the same local network. Use a wired network connection where practical.
  2. Check the receiver's IP address and network settings in its manual or management interface. The computer's network settings must allow it to reach the receiver.
  3. Connect the receiver's DMX output to the lights using DMX cable.
  4. Open Stage Setup → Network Outputs in LuDioMix.
  5. Enter the receiver's IP address in Remote Host / device IP. Check Remote Port, Net, Subnet and Universe against the receiver settings.
  6. Save the setup. Fixture profiles and start addresses are covered in the Fixtures guide.

Universe numbering: devices and applications may display numbering from different starting points. Identical displayed numbers do not necessarily identify the same Art-Net address. Check the receiver manual and the complete Net/Subnet/Universe setting.

Enable Art-Net output starts real lighting output from the editor. Use it after checking the receiver, addresses and fixture settings. Output starting successfully does not prove that a light receives the correct channel.

5. WLED and phone remote control

WLED lights

  1. Connect the WLED device to the same local network as the computer.
  2. Find its IP address and check that its own control page opens in the computer's browser.
  3. Add the device in the WLED settings under Stage Setup → Network Outputs and enter its address.
  4. Save using Save WLED devices. You must also select and enable suitable effects in LuDioMix's WLED settings.

A WLED network connection and a configured lighting effect are separate things. Opening the device's control page verifies connectivity, not the LuDioMix effect configuration.

Phone remote control

  1. Connect the phone and LuDioMix computer to the same local network. Guest-network device isolation can block access.
  2. Click Enable Remote Control on the LuDioMix main screen. Windows may request administrator approval for the firewall setting.
  3. Open exactly the address shown on the REMOTE CONTROL line in the phone's browser, including its port number.

The remote controls LuDioMix running on the computer. Keep the application running. Use the address displayed by your application; addresses in example screenshots may not match your network.

6. Check before the first show

  • The correct audio source is selected and audio reaches the computer.
  • Your Art-Net or WLED device is reachable, if used.
  • The correct project and stage setup are selected.
  • Physical lights, profiles and addresses are configured. Moving-head limits are calibrated.
  • When ready to start lighting control as well, press LIVE and check that Audio input level responds without clipping.

Note: LIVE is not an audio-only test button. It starts show control and requires a configured lighting rig. A start blocked by an empty project does not, by itself, indicate an audio fault.

If not already done, continue by creating your project and configuring fixture profiles.

Verification: LuDioMix field names and behaviour were checked against source code. This connection guide was not verified with a physical audio interface or lighting test. The HTML is intended for a WordPress Custom HTML block; check the final appearance on your Kadence website.
